Funeral services for Marion Elizabeth Hudspeth, 83, of Zavalla, will be held Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church in Zavalla with Pastor Albert Hensarling officiating. Interment will follow at Concord Cemetery.
Mrs. Hudspeth passed away peacefully in her home on December 15, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones who knew her simply as "Mammaw."
Born on October 1, 1941, in Merryville, Louisiana, to Ozel Franks and Georgia Helen Warner, she was raised in Marshall, Texas, by her mother and her stepfather John A. Hasler. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Marion was a devout Christian whose unwavering faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a steadfast member of Concord Baptist Church, she lived out the teachings of Jesus through kindness, humility, and love for her neighbors, no matter their walk of life. She believed in compassion over judgment and grace over pride, embodying a faith that brought people together and made everyone feel valued and loved.
Marion had a deep and abiding love for all children. As a teacher's aide for remedial reading students at Zavalla Elementary School, she left an indelible mark on the heart of every student she helped. Even at the very end of her life, the sights and sounds of her great-grandchildren always brought a radiant smile to her face.
In retirement, Marion and her husband Milton loved to travel, with favorite destinations including Galveston, Texas, Mountain View, Arkansas, Orlando, Florida, and Branson, Missouri.
Marion was famous for her banana pudding and holiday cooking. Her home was a haven of warmth, love, and good food every Thanksgiving and Christmas and all year round. The Lord saw fit to call her home during the time of year she was always happiest.
Marion is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Hiram Milton Hudspeth, 86, of Zavalla, and by her children: Jeffrey Hudspeth and his wife Donna, of Zavalla; David Hudspeth and his wife Regina, of Zavalla; and Melinda Ramsey and her husband Jeff, of Logansport, Louisiana. She was a proud grandmother to Justin Hudspeth, Jerrod Hudspeth, Kyle Hudspeth, Jordan Davis, Kaleigh Anderson, Ryan Hudspeth, Nicholas Anderson, and Reed Anderson. She was blessed with five great-grandchildren: Katherine Hudspeth, Marcus Hudspeth, Hayes Hudspeth, Waylon Anderson, and Warren Davis. She is also survived by six siblings: Gregory Franks, Angie Cole, Khris McTyre, Mike Hasler, Clara Searcy, Tony Hasler, and many more cherished relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Ozel Franks, Georgia Hasler, and John Hasler; and by her siblings: Lynette O'Conor, John A. Hasler Jr., Kathryn Mitchell, and Larry Hasler.
Her family finds comfort knowing she is now at peace, reunited with loved ones in Heaven, and celebrating in God's eternal presence. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Sophonia Davis, Maria Nerren, and the entire Harbor Hospice team.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Concord Baptist Church, prior to the funeral service..
