In Loving Memory of Marion Dywan Sutton April 22, 1957 – June 17, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Marion Dywan Sutton of Lubbock, Texas, who departed this life on June 17, 2025, at the age of 68.

Born on April 22, 1957, Marion lived a life marked by quiet strength, humility, and kindness. He graduated from Estacado High School in 1975 and was known by all who met him as a gentle, easygoing soul who found joy in life’s simple pleasures—especially watching basketball and football, his favorite sports.

Those who knew Marion appreciated his calm presence and generous spirit. His compassion extended beyond people, as he faithfully cared for the wild pigeons and stray cats in his neighborhood—a quiet testament to his nurturing heart.

Marion took great pride in his work. He was a dedicated employee of Home Plate Diner in Lubbock from 1992 until its closing in 2014. He later found not only a job but a second family at Target, where his coworkers—Shelly Allen, Tania Giler, Marcos Jauregui, Teresa Cantu, Pete Chapa, and Alize Roberson—affectionately called him “Bro” and became lifelong friends.

Affectionately known as “Ricky” to his family, Marion is lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Ernestine (AJ) Anderson, James (Helen) Anderson, Andren Anderson, Lexie Anderson, David (Chenoa) Anderson, Willie Anderson, Ilecia (Charles) Culver and their children Tamerah and Taymar, James Ray and Angie Anderson and their children Xavier, Annjennette, Alexia, and Alaina, and Annie Moore.

He was preceded in death by his adoptive mother, Oddesa Pruitt, and his beloved sister, Harvey Lee Lacy.

Serving as pallbearers are Brandon Clemente, Steven Odell, Zach McGee, Marcos Jauregui, Bruce Herron, and Pete Chapa. Honorary pallbearers include Irene Crowder, Shelly Allen, James David, Willie, James Ray, and Andren Anderson.

Marion’s gentle soul and quiet devotion will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the cherished Target family he held dear.

A celebration of Marion’s life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Combest Funeral Chapel, 2210 Broadway Avenue, Lubbock, TX. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
