Marjorie R. Lear, 92, died Sunday, February 22, 2026, at her home in rural Garden City. She was born November 5, 1933, in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Ira Boyd & Helen (Buhrle) Rundell.

Marjorie grew up as a child in Wichita, Kansas. She moved with her family to Bavaria, Kansas where she attended and graduated from Bavaria High School. She then attended 1 year at Kansas State University. On December 5, 1954, she married Donald R. Lear in Bavaria, Kansas. They moved to the Lear family farm near Garden City and have lived there since. A farm wife, Marjorie enjoyed spending her time quilting, sewing, crafts, painting gourds, entertaining, and listening to music. She loved spending her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marjorie was a member of Pierceville Federated Church and was very active serving on the mission committee, helping with Sunday School, and active in the Dorcas Club. She was also a member of the Gideons Auxiliary.

Survivors include 3 children Tom (Mellisa) Lear of Garden City, Katherine (John) DeWerff of Ellinwood, KS, and Boyd Lear of Garden City, KS; 7 grandchildren J.T. Lear, Amanda (Chris) Roemer, Joshua DeWerff, Ruthann (Mark) Wertz, Levi (Bethany) Lear, Luke (Chandler) Lear, & Elizabeth Penner; 17 great-grandchildren Landry Lear, Kendrick Lear, Hattie Lear, Emmylou Lear, Boyd Lear, Troy Lear, Avery Lear, Ruby O'Bryan, Parker Wertz, Blake Wertz, Wilder Wertz, Charliann Wertz, Taylor Roemer, Jobi Roemer, Asha Flax, Noah Roemer, & Kelby Roemer. She is also survived by 3 sisters Mary Katherien Larsen of Salina, KS, Carolyn Kay Cassidy of Colorado Springs, CO, & Margaret Ellen Ray of Colorado Springs, CO; and a sister-in-law Verna Rundell of Syracuse, KS.

Marjorie is preceded in death by her husband Donald who died on December 18, 2022. She is also preceded in death by her parents; an infant baby girl Lear; a daughter-in-law Lorraine Lear; 2 brother I.B. Sonny Rundell and Clinton Rundell; and a sister Marily Petersen and her husband Art Petersen.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the Pierceville Federated Church in Pierceville, Kansas with Rev. Mike MacWhinnie officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City and the family will be at the funeral home to visit with friends. The family suggests memorials given to the Pierceville Federated Church, Gideons International, or KJIL Radio, all in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City. Condolences may be given at garnandfuneralhomes.com.
