Marjorie Vadine Mullins, 100, passed away on November 19, 2024, at Germantown Methodist Hospital. For the past twenty plus years she wanted nothing more than to go home to glory to see Jesus face to face, and last Tuesday she finally got her heart's desire.
A lifelong Memphian, Vadine attended and graduated from Messick High School and worked as a teller in a local bank after graduation. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star and spent many years serving with the organization. Vadine met her husband, Raymond, at Central Avenue Baptist Church and married in June of 1946, after he returned home from WW II. Vadine raised two boys, Raymond Lee Mullins Jr and Robert Thomas Mullins, who were both very active in church and school. She prided herself on the fact that she was their biggest supporter and never missed one of their activities. An educator at heart, she started Glen Park Pre-School at Glen Park Baptist Church in the late 1960s and later Ridgeway Pre-School at Ridgeway Baptist Church in the early 1970s. Vadine worked with children well into her 80s as a VBS director, pre-school director, music teacher at Ridgeway Baptist Church, and after-school care coordinator at Briarcrest Christian School. Vadine was a lifelong member of Ridgeway Baptist Church, who, along with her husband Raymond, were mentors to the youth group during their early married years, and then later in life, became an active member of their Golden Agers group.
Vadine was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, sons Ray and Bobby, and daughter-in-law, Wanda, as well as her parents and brother. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Mullins; six grandchildren, Kim (Donnie) Blair, Amy (Aaron) Winters, Emily (Todd) Mashour, Brandon (Megan) Mullins, Melody (Joey) Amason, and Mallory (Rocky) McNabb. She also leaves nine great-grandchildren, Brantley Mullins, Will Blair, Tate Mashour, Raelyn McNabb, Ella Mullins, Emma Rae Mashour, Maggie Lou Winters, Browder McNabb, and Millie Winters. Vadine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her love of smiley faces, and sing-song voice accompanied by clapping her hands for emphasis will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday, November 27 from 10-11 am, and funeral services will begin at 11:00 am. All services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. Memorials can be made to Ridgeway Baptist Church or Briarcrest Christian School.
