EAST FISHKILL - Marjorie "Marj", "Marjie", "Neenie", Ann (Estelle Kyle) Way passed away peacefully on April 9, 2022, at the age of ?? Don't you wish you knew? The very few of us that are "in the know" have been sworn to secrecy for the rest of eternity, and if you knew Marj even a little, this does not come as a surprise. Age is just a number and Marj lived her life to the fullest each and every day of her life.
Marj died in Portsmouth, RI, at the Atria Aquidneck Place. Marjorie was fortunate that she was able to live out her final years in a place where so many people truly cared about her. They were passionate about and devoted to providing her with top-notch care and the very best quality of life, even as she digressed in her ability to completely understand all that was done for her, they diligently continued to provide for her with superior care. Those that work in the area of Life Guidance and cared for Marjorie during her last few years are angels on earth.
Born on August 12, 19?? in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York City, New York, Marjorie was the youngest child of and only daughter of the late James Elwood (1962) and late Margaret Ann (1977) Kyle. She was raised with her two older brothers, Howard and Elwood. They were able to spend time with many relatives and friends, including her grandparents, as they also lived in the area. At Bay Ridge High School, "She was the Cutie that Played the Flutie" ; President of Junior Orchestra and participated in the School Play, Choral Club, Square & Social Dancing, Student Leaders, Tennis, Volley Ball, and Badminton.
Marj was preceded in death (2/6/2011) by her other half, her husband of just over fifty years, Donald Allyn; while the two appeared opposites in many ways, once you got to know them, you'd realize how their personalities complemented one another, making them the perfect pair. Marj, together with Don, and upon welcoming Michelle Ann (Way DaSilva) into this their lives, acknowledged that raising an only daughter would keep them plenty busy and entertained for at least the foreseeable future, so they dedicated their time to raising her; it was also at this time that Marj quit her job as a bookkeeper for IBM and became a fulltime wife, mother, and home engineer. Michelle now lives in Bristol, RI with her husband, John DaSilva.
Melanie Ann DaSilva, of Bristol, RI, Marj's oldest grandchild, and only granddaughter, started calling Marj "Neenie", a nickname which everyone used to fondly refer to her from that time forward– as far as Marj's RI extended family and friends are concerned, Marj is "Neenie", a role which she eagerly embraced and filled with ease. Along with Kyle Joseph DaSilva, of Bristol, RI, her only grandson, Marj enjoyed traveling to various places, including Alaska, a favorite and cherished trip for the two. When Marj moved to RI, they were able to take joy in the extra opportunities to spend time together given the closer proximity.
Throughout their lives, Marj spent many hours singing with her two older brothers, Charles Howard Kyle (2020) and James Elwood Kyle (2011), both of who preceded her in death– surely, the three of them are now singing altogether again! Marj is survived by C. Howard's wife, Anne Kyle of Kansas City, KS, and was preceded in death by J. Elwood's wife Rose (2014), who was one of Marj's best friends prior to marrying her brother.
Marj's family spent many summers, enjoying numerous laughs and forming countless memories on Hillside Lake. It was the lake that brought Marj up from the city and led her to meet and eventually marry, Don. It was in Hopewell Junction in the Town of East Fishkill where Marj spent most of her life and made her presence known. She and Don believed and lived their life proving that it takes a village to raise, not just a family, but an entire community. They dedicated much of their time to East Fishkill and Dutchess County. Marj was a celebrated member of the Dutchess County Youth Board for many years, receiving the Dottie Lasday Award in 2005. Marj donated her time to the East Fishkill Town Library, and the Recreation Department, and to organizing, running, and/or working at countless Community events year after year. In 2018, Marjorie was honored by the Town of East Fishkill, Dutchess County, and the NY State Senate for her dedication, service, and leadership to the people in the community of East Fishkill and the Hudson Valley over her lifetime.
Marj sold Avon for thirty years, maintaining her status as President's Club for almost all of those years. To note, every doctor that she saw during the last few years was always amazed by and took the time to comment on how beautiful her skin was, right to the day she passed away, so perhaps Avon really does have the secret for agelessness! Over the years, Marj enjoyed shopping, reading, traveling, bowling, crafting, sewing, tennis, and entertaining/organizing/throwing parties/celebrations (which included being "the hostess with the mostest"), but her passion was always singing. Marj spent her entire life singing, she was a member of the Hopewell Reformed Church Choir since she moved to Hopewell, often sang with the Taghkanic Chorale, and founded the East Fishkill Community Chorus.
Marjorie moved to the Atria Aquidneck Place, Assisted Living after a short respite stay. Moving to RI allowed Michelle to be there whenever her mom needed her and also the ability to just drop in to see her after work, or any other time. Marj was also able to see Melanie & Kyle more often and to go for rides in John's convertible, (often to go get ice cream), something she found quite exhilarating. The DaSilva family dogs, Cashew & Smores became regular visitors at the Atria, which was a favorite event for Marjorie, especially towards the end and when hospice had been called in to help care for Marj at the end. When Marjie peacefully passed on to be with Don, Michelle was able to be there at her bedside, which brought serenity and has served to aid with the acceptance of Marj's passing for the entire family.
