Mark Barnett Obituary

Published by Legacy on Apr. 25, 2025.
Mark Allen Barnett, 58, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the Dove House in Westminster, MD. Born in Polkville NC on January 01, 1967. He was the son of the late Bate and Carolyn Spurling Barnett.
Mark lived in Raleigh NC for many years and worked at Athens Drive High School until his illness. He specialized in working with children with hearing and vision loss. Mark volunteered for numerous organizations over the years and was beloved by everyone he helped. He always "endeavored to persevere."
Mark was a Boy Scout in Lawndale during his youth and excelled through High School where he was a football player and wrestler. After High School he became an EMT and worked for the Hospital and Cleveland County for several years. After moving to Raleigh, he graduated College and became a teacher.
Mark was born with hearing loss and began losing his vision in his early twenties. Mark had many challenges in life but met each challenge with undaunting courage and perseverance. He always overcame each obstacle with integrity and humility and created a successful and rewarding life that included service and discipleship to others along with a strong belief and adherence to Christian principles and God's word.
Mark was a man of remarkable strength, boundless energy, and unwavering kindness. He was a loving friend to so many. He loved his friends, and his friends loved him deeply and without reservation.
Mark is survived by brother, Patrick Barnett (Linda) of Gettysburg, PA, and sister, Tammy Fox of Cramerton, NC, and his niece Bryce Fox of Tennessee. Additionally, Mark is survived by his seeing-eye dog, Disco Barnett, whom he loved immensely. Mark had three very special friends from the Raleigh area, George Chester, Kim Harrell, and Tommy Outlaw and is survived by the love of his life, Ginny Lou Laughlin of Raleigh.
Mark's friends and family will forever cherish his memory, the warmth of his presence, the sound of his laugh, the way he loved and cared of everyone. Though our hearts ache, we find comfort in knowing he is in Heaven with his God and parents.
A celebration of Mark's life will be held from 6 to 7:30 PM on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home, 846 Stagecoach Trail, Fallston NC. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Polkville Baptist Church followed by interment in the church cemetery.
Those desiring may make memorial donations to BridgingLife's Dove House, c/o: Development Office, 200 Memorial Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.
