Mark Edward Bird of Little Rock was received into the loving care of Jesus on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at his brother's home in Stevensville, MI.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 30th at Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church, Maumelle. A visitation will take place from 5:00-7:00 pm on Sunday, June 29th at Shepherd of Peace. Burial will take place at a later date. Memorial Donations in Mark's name may be made to Shepherd of Peace Lutheran. Arrangements have been coordinated by Starks and Menchinger Funeral Home, St. Joseph MI.
Mark was born on March 23, 1948 in St. Louis, MO to Rev. Ralph and Virginia (Twillman) Bird. Mark received a bachelor's degree in journalism from North Texas State University. He had a passionate love for sports and his career included writing a sports column called "Bird's Eye View" for the Garland Daily News, Texas then sports reporting for the Arkansas Democrat as well as a radio sports broadcast in Little Rock. He also was a referee and umpire at a variety of levels of local sports in the area.
Mark was best known for his dedication to the Lord in service to the church. His church involvement included leading a popular Bible Study class and eldership, as well choir. Mark had a larger-than-life personality and never met a stranger that he didn't easily strike up a conversation about his faith or about sports.
Mark is survived by his brother Tom (Terry) Bird, sister Gloria (Felix) Cates as well as numerous cousins, nieces & nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. He was preceded to heaven by his parents.
