William "Steven" Brooks

William "Steven" Brooks, 60, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025. Steve was born on September 23, 1964, to William Bugg and Deloris Jean (Smith) Bugg Edwards in Kokomo, Indiana.
A graveside celebration of life will be held at 12:00pm, Friday, August 29, 2025, at Riverview Cemetery, 2925 Niles Ave., Saint Joseph, Michigan. Feel free to share a memory with the family on their online tribute wall at www.starks-menchinger.com.
Steve was a devoted husband, son, brother, loving father, wise uncle and doting "Papi." He spent his entire 35-year professional career at Flagstar Bank working his way up from a loan officer to the chief operating officer of the bank. His coworkers adored him, and he was a lifelong mentor to many. While he had a stellar professional career, his true joy was his family. When he was diagnosed with multi system atrophy, a terminal and debilitating illness in late 2023, he retired to focus on family and healing. During this time, he welcomed his first grandchild who, along with his children, were the light of his life. And all who know him know he was a dedicated fan of the University of Michigan Football Team.
Steve had a huge heart and held his friends and family close to it.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Jamie (Passon) Brooks, whom he married on August 5, 1989; his children, Noah Michael Brooks and partner Tara Sabbineni, Anna Dylan Brooks, Rachel and Evans Stepanov; granddaughter Lilia Brooks Stepanov; sister Michelle Flaherty; mother Deloris Jean Edwards; father and mother in law Michelle and Steven Passon; sisters in law Stacie Passon and Suzanne McAuley; niece and nephews Julianna and Alex Milnikel and William Flaherty; great niece Adalyn Milnikel; niece Maren Shapero, nephew Micah Shapero and special friend Eden Garcia. He was preceded in death by his father, William Bugg and brother, Michael Bugg.
