Catherine Langford "Cathy" Brooks, 73 of Griffin passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Eternal Hope Hospice with her husband Dick of 53 years and daughter Lindsey by her side.
Cathy was born on December 14, 1951, in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Paul Flynt Langford and the late Betty Jo Tyus Langford. Cathy was raised in Griffin with her brother Rocky Langford and sister, Gwen Langford.
She attended Crescent and Third Ward Elementary schools, Spalding Junior High, and graduated from Griffin High School. As a young person, she was active in Girl Scouts and the 4-H club, appearing on the Saturday morning TV show, the 4-H hour. In high school, she was Secretary of the Student Council and a member of the Homecoming Court. She then attended Wesleyan College as a Religion and English Literature major and enjoyed being a member of the 1974 Purple Knight Class.
Cathy married Richard Hunter Brooks and was part of the First National Bank of Griffin family during the 45 years he worked there. Together they have two sons, Bryan Brooks (Heidi) of Nashville, Kevin Brooks (Kristie) of Saint Simons Island; and one daughter, Lindsey Brooks of Brunswick; 5 grandchildren, Belinda Grace Brooks, Charlotte Brooks, Beau Brooks, Beckham Brooks, and Brooklyn Brooks.
She was a lifelong member of Griffin First United Methodist Church and worked as the Church Financial Secretary and Financial Director of the FUMC Preschool. Cathy taught kindergarten several years before going to work for the Griffin Spalding County School System. She worked for Edward Jones Investments before going to work for the Retirement Funds of Georgia and the Peace Officers Annuity and Benefit Fund. Cathy was heavily involved in the community. She was a member of the Griffin Utility Club, DAR, Griffin Historical Society and the Evergreen Garden Club. Upon retiring, she enjoyed dividing her time between Griffin and Brunswick, GA with her husband and their Pomeranian Buddy.
Cathy had a gift for computer programs and loved to write, as well as enjoying interior decorating, gardening, flower arranging, watercolor painting, photography, and music. She was a piano and ukulele player. Bible study was always an important part of her life, and she enjoyed teaching the New Wesleyan Sunday School Class and was a graduate of the Disciple Program. Her faith, family, and friends were most important, and she was blessed by all of these.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2025, from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. at Oak Hill Cemetery. A graveside funeral service will begin at 3:00 P.M. with Pastor Andrew Covington, Pastor Bryan Brooks, and Reverend Pam Johnston officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Griffin First United Methodist Church 1401 Maple Drive, Griffin GA 30224, in memory of Cathy. The family would also like to thank the staff of Eternal Hope Hospice for their sweet and loving care they expressed to Cathy.
