Mark Byrd passed away peacefully on June 1st at his home at the age of 58. He was born on September 15th, 1965 in Lancaster, SC to James (Buck) and Rhoda Byrd.
He attended and graduated from Winthrop University with a degree in Education. He was a lineman before becoming a teacher and coach. He ended his career combining the two professions he loved: teaching and linework. He touched the lives of many and truly made a lasting impact on all of his students, athletes, and coworkers.
Mark was an Eagle Scout where he was taught courage, discipline, and dedication to things that were most important to him. He loved spending time with his family and his greatest accomplishment was being a Pops to his five grandkids. He will always be remembered for his love of the Carolina Panthers, his amazing cooking skills, and his ability to make every situation a little more fun.
He was the silent type, but would always chime in at the perfect time with a funny antidote or inspiring advice. He was always up for a challenge and exploring new places with his fun sense of adventure.
Mark Byrd will be deeply missed by anyone who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy through his students, friends, and family. His memory will live on in the hearts. He is survived by his mother, Rhoda Byrd, son, Brad Byrd and spouse, Margo Byrd and their children Charlie and Avery, and daughter Erin Kosovan and spouse, Ivan Kosovan and their children Ava, Ruth Ellis, and Luca. He also leaves behind a brother, Michael Byrd and his spouse, Debbie Byrd and their children Jonathan, spouse, Megan, and Sydnee. He also leaves behind Lisa Tompkins, his best friend of seventeen years.
Mark Byrd began his journey as a lineman before becoming a teacher and coach. He ended his career combining the two professions he loved: teaching and linework.
