Mark Canavan Obituary
Mark Gregory Canavan passed on February 19, 2025, at UNM Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was the youngest of three boys, born in New Hempstead, New York on May 30, 1962, to Gregory and Jean Canavan. The family moved to Albuquerque in 1965.
Mark was bright and gifted as a boy, albeit restless. This led to a variety of exciting events throughout his childhood before honing his talents in adulthood, where he tested a variety of career options before finding his professional calling in institutional investing.
Mark's work took him to New York in 2000, where he met his wife, Asli Kiran. The two moved back to Albuquerque and married in 2006, making Asli stepmother to his daughter Natalie from a prior marriage. The couple later welcomed daughter Melissa in 2008.
Mark retired from his role as a Director of the Real Return Group for the New Mexico Education Retirement Board in August 2024 and subsequently began his role as the VP of Business Development at Innoven Energy.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Gregory and Jean; and brother, Chris. Mark is survived by his loving wife, Asli; and his children, Melissa, and Natalie and husband Jantzen; brother, Neil; wife, Dani; and stepchild, Phoenix; his sister-in-law, Mary; and her children, Allie and Ian; and cousin, Gregory and his children, Heather and John.
A celebration of life will be held for Mark on Saturday, March 15th, 2025 at 9:00 AM at French Funerals and Cremations - Wyoming. Please visit our online guestbook for Mark at www.frenchfunerals.com.

I'm saddened to hear that Mark, of fondest memories, has passed from this life. Mark was a frequent visitor for my late husband Primo and myself, and fun playmate for my six, then seven children during his and their childhood spent as next door neighbors on Arroyo del Oso Street. His presence was welcomed and enjoyed by us all. From one of my kids, "Mark was funny and smart and a friend to all of us Boonies." Another writes "I remember his incredible basketball moves." Another, "I definitely remember Maaaaaaark!! as Mrs Canavan would often yell for him out the back door. But seriously, I remember how sweet and kind he was. Definitely gone too soon." ...and definitely a warm spot in our hearts Mark was: we extend our deepest sympathies to Asli, Natalie, Melissa and the entire family.

Wonderful childhood memories include Mark our next door neighbor on Arroyo. It´s not surprising at all to read about his life accomplishments . Our family joins you in the celebration of his life as we remember good times with the Canavans on Arroyo Del Oso.
