Margie Romero Baca

Margie Romero Baca peacefully passed away on Tuesday, January 20th, 2026. She was born in Albuquerque on May 18th, 1948 in Albuquerque, NM, attended Sacred Heart School, attended St Pius X High School for two years, then went to Rio Grande High School and graduated with the Class of 1966. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Albuquerque, then a Master's Degree in Education from the University of New Mexico.

She began her first career in education as a teacher with the Albuquerque Public School system, then becoming a Title I Program reading specialist, and retired from APS in 1996. Margie then served as the Albuquerque City Clerk during the term of former Mayor Jim Baca from 2000 to 2004. Shortly after her term, she returned to the Albuquerque Public School system as a bi-lingual interventionist. She served as an advocate for children, especially in disadvantaged and underperforming schools, until she retired from her second career in education at APS in 2011.

In addition to her passion for education, politics, and being a voice for the disadvantaged and underprivileged, her many interests included travel, physical fitness, reading, movies, and her pets.

She is survived by her son, Patrick Baca, and many other relatives and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Abie and Margaret Romero; and her son, Matthew Baca.

Margie's viewing for family and friends will be held Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026, from 6pm to 8pm at Trujillo's Family Funeral Home, 110 Alvarado Dr SE (just south of Central). A Celebration of Life will be held at noon on Saturday, February 7th, 2026, at Glorybound Ministries Center, 11913 Menaul Blvd NE (east of Juan Tabo), with a lunch reception to follow.
