Mark Anthony Carpenter, age 76, of Gilman, passed away on July 30, 2025.
Mark was born on July 16, 1949, the only child of Frank and Patricia (Weix) Carpenter. He went to St. Mary's School where he met his wife of 56 years, Gloria Hoernke, in the fifth grade. Mark then attended Colby High School where he played football, wrestled and was in track and field, dating Gloria throughout. Mark and Gloria were married on October 26, 1968.
Mark worked at the Colby Cheese Factory, worked for General Telephone & Electronics Corporation (subsequently Verizon), and worked for the United States Department of Agriculture in the Dairy Division as a cheese inspector.
More than anything else, Mark cherished spending time with his family. However, he also had a passion for hunting, motorcycle and ATV riding, maintaining ATV trails, operating excavation and construction equipment, trap shooting, throwing horseshoes, woodworking, antique cars, and Elvis music.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Gloria, and his three children: Neal, Deanna, and Ryan. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kashin, Kassandra, Takoda, Allison and Nathan, and three great-grandchildren, Ford, Bree, and Kiara, with a fourth great-granddaughter due later this year.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at St. Mary Help of Christians Parish in Colby, with Father Arockia Amirtha Raj and Father Madanu Sleeva Raju officiating. Mark will be laid to rest at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Colby immediately thereafter. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, August 4, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford, and again on Tuesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
