Mark A. Chickering

Mark A. Chickering, 66, passed away peacefully at home on September 16, 2024 at home. He leaves behind his spouse, Barbara O'Donnell, and their son, Matt Chickering of Millville, his parents, Clarence and Patricia (Nickerson) Chickering, his sisters, Debbie Biechele, Jane Hebert, and Judy Wright, and their adult children (his nieces and nephews), Molly and Corey Biechele, Chris and Chelsey Hebert, and Stephanie, Rachel and Hannah Wright.
Following his graduation from Babson College, Mark launched his career in the financial services industry with positions held over the years with Scudder, Stephens & Clark and Putnam Investments. When Barbara and Mark settled into their first home in Franklin, Massachusetts, Mark headed up a regional Better Business Bureau office before embarking on his treasured role as Matt's stay at home dad to support Barbara's ability to launch her legal career in Boston. During Matt's preschool years, Mark and Barb moved to their charming farmhouse on several acres of land in Millville. Drawing upon his fond memories of growing up on coastal Maine, Mark enjoyed collecting vintage furnishing for their home and attached barn and adding to the property's nature friendly landscaping, including a koi pond, bird feeders and trails behind the barn. In addition to his hobby farm activities, Mark was an avid sports fan with an in-depth knowledge of sports memorabilia that ran the gamut from professional football, golf and tennis greats.
In keeping with his life-long love of sports, Mark enjoyed playing tennis with Matt, as well as corn hole games during regular gatherings with Matt's friends, who enjoyed spending time in an area of the barn that was outfitted with sports bar accessories. Mark also spent a lot of time with Barb and Matt in Rockport where they all enjoyed the ocean views, coastal walks and local seafood.
