Mark Clayton Collings

Mark Clayton Collings, 67, of Spring Hill, Tennessee, passed away at his home surrounded by family on September 10, 2025.

Mark was born in Owensboro, Kentucky to Dr. Jack Clayton Collings and Mary Boyd Cravens Collings on October 28, 1957. Mark graduated from Owensboro High School in 1975, but more importantly he began dating his future bride, Kathryn Jane Mullikin that same year. Mark continued his education at the University of Kentucky graduating in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. While attending UK, he pledged Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity where he served as an active member forming lifelong friendships while cheering on their beloved CATS. He began his Agriculture career in Winchester, Kentucky. He relocated to Richmond, VA with corporate Southern States as a Grain Commodities Merchant. Mark and Kathy lived in Richmond for 14 years raising their family. In 2003, Mark moved to Tennessee continuing his career with Agmark Intermodal Systems Inc.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents Dr. Jack Clayton Collings and Mary Boyd Cravens Collings and Jack’s late second wife, Nelda Barton Collings.

Mark is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathy; children, Meagan Boyd (Jonathan) Morrison, James Kerrick (Alexandra) Collings, and Jonathan David (Rachel) Collings; grandchildren, Rosemary Christine (6), Clayton Fuell (4), and Halle Ann (4); siblings; David Andrew (Lea Ann) Collings, Mary Beth (Terry) Durham, and Julie (David) Estes; numerous nieces and nephews, and his constant companion, Max.

Mark enjoyed many hobbies. Mark’s heaven on Earth was at Shalom Farm where he enjoyed ‘piddling’, hunting, fishing, and bird watching. He loved basketball, playing pick-up games, college intramural games, coaching youth basketball or watching his CATS. But he thrived most by simply being around people and bringing out the best in them. Through conversations or experiences, he always sought to find the commonalities that brought others together.

Mark valued relationships above everything. He was a devoted husband, father, and granddaddy. He valued family and tradition, fostering character to leave a legacy. His life lessons were his natural legacy. Whether fishing with Meagan, supporting and sharing with James in all things athletic, or sharing in Jonathan’s passion for history, Mark was intentional, teaching organically through the life he led.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 14, 2025 4pm - 7pm at Spring Hill Memorial Funeral Home. Service will be Monday, September 15, 2025 11am – 12pm with visitation 10am – 11am at Thompson’s Station Church where Mark and Kathy regularly attended. Burial will follow at Glenville Baptist Church in Utica, Kentucky at a later date. Arrangements are by Spring Hill Memorial Funeral Home.
