Mark Gerald Donaghue of Calgary passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the age of 66 years.
Mark was born in Montreal December 30, 1958, to Gerald ‘Gerry’ and Joyce Donaghue but grew up in Châteauguay, Quebec. He had a great sense of humor his whole life and loved to make people smile. While attending Howard S. Billings Regional High School, Mark coached women’s soccer, played football and rugby, and frequented the community pool. One thing that stayed constant in his life was his love for the Montreal Canadians!
After graduation in 1977, Mark met the love of his life Ellen and his family moved to Ontario. At this time Mark worked for Northern Telecom like his father, grandfather and great grandfather before him. Excited to start their lives together, Mark and Ellen got married in 1980 and together they have shared 45 years of marriage and have three beautiful children.
Everyone who knew Mark knew how much he loved history, genealogy, archaeology and antiques. He could talk for hours about any subject such as the sinking of the Titanic or the story of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, to features like dovetail joints in 18th century furniture. Passions that his children now share.
After working 22 years at the Salvation Army in Calgary, and retiring in 2023, Mark always put the care of others first. It was important to him to help people however he could, and we admired him for that. He will always be remembered as a kind and loving man.
Mark is survived by his wife Ellen; children, Christie (Juan), Teresa (Mike) and Jen (Matt); grandchildren, Keegan & Amara; father, Gerry; mother, Joyce; sister, Brenda; niece, Kathie; nephew, Ian.
May his memory live on in the hearts of all those who knew him.
