Mark William Earl Fraase
July 7, 1971 – September 9, 2025
Mark William Earl Fraase, 54, of Denver, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on September 9, 2025.
He was born on July 7, 1971, in Fargo, North Dakota, to Jewel (Christensen) Hayenga and Mark Fraase.
Mark earned his bachelor's degree from Moorhead State University and dedicated much of his career to serving others as a juvenile probation officer in Ramsey County, Minnesota. Known to family and friends as Scooter, Mark will be lovingly remembered for his zest for life and the deep care he showed to all. Despite facing challenges, his greatest joy was always his children, Holden and Alyse. He also cherished the moments spent with his niece and nephews, creating lasting bonds with them.
His lifelong passion for horses shaped much of his life; he dedicated many years working at prominent racetracks as a groom for nationally renowned trainers. He often dreamed of moving to Hot Springs, Arkansas, to continue his work with horses, a testament to his enduring love for these magnificent animals. Mark was a gifted woodworker, crafting intricate designs that he generously gifted to family and friends, each piece a reflection of his creativity and heart. Music was another source of comfort and joy for Mark. A talented guitar player, he found solace and expression through music. All these passions combined to reveal a gentle spirit, marked by a genuine laugh and an engaging personality.
Mark's warmth and kindness touched all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
Mark was preceded in death by his sister, Darshayne Hayenga. He is survived by his children, Holden Fraase and Alyse Fraase; his parents, Jewel Hayenga and Mark Fraase; his siblings, Heather Fraase, Jill Steiner, Jeff Hayenga, Timothy Hayenga, and Dustin Hayenga; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Services will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 6:30 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that you consider making a donation to a cause dear to Mark's heart: the Rocky Mountain Horse Rescue. Your generosity helps provide care and hope for neglected, abused, and abandoned horses. Donations can be made online at rockymountainhorserescue.org
