Mark Russell Scott Garfield, Sr., 61, of Lyndonville, passed away on April 9, 2025.
Mark was born on March 1, 1964, to Charles and Mildred (Donaghy) Garfield in Newport, VT. He grew up in North Stratford, NH, but spent most of his life living in the Northeast Kingdom of VT. Mark was a jack-of-all trades. Working from a young age, his jobs ranged from delivering newspapers to driving school buses, maintaining lawns, mechanical work, and working at Ethan Allen in Orleans, VT. He put his whole heart into whatever he did.
The greatest love of Mark’s life was his wife Diane, who he lost to cancer in 2011. More recently, Mark was never seen without his late dog, Charlie. He proudly introduced him to everyone he came in contact with. Growing up Mark cherished spending time at his grandparents (Howard and Melba Donaghy) home in Concord, VT. With aunts, uncles, and many cousins he enjoyed holiday gatherings, haying, taking care of the horses, and going horseback riding. Mark will be remembered for his kind heart, friendly smile, giving nature, and his incredible sense of humor. No matter where he went, Mark was always cracking a joke. It made him happy when he could put a smile on your face and make you laugh. Mark enjoyed watching funny shows and listening to country music. But his happiness and true joy came from the times he spent with the people who loved him, whether it was talking on the phone, playing cards, sharing a meal, attending local events, or just hanging out.
Mark is survived by his daughter Virginia Garfield; stepchildren Nicole Dumont, Anthony Pizarro, George McKenna III, and Trish Cook (Trombley); grandchildren Max, Finn, Lily, Christian, Christopher, Aryana, Kira, and Tyler; siblings Walter Garfield, Sharon Mooney and Brian Mooney, Annette Parrow and Hazen Sweatt, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, parents, older brother Chuck, wife Diane and son Mark Garfield, Jr.; A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer Street, St. Johnsbury, VT. Calling hours will be from 5-6pm, followed by a service and family/friends gathering, ending at 7pm.
