Stephen (Steve) Allen Taylor, 78, of Lyndonville, Vermont, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, following a recent decline in health.

Born and raised in Vermont as the youngest of seven children, Steve embodied the grit, humor, and work ethic that defined his generation of Vermonters. A lifelong hard worker, he held many jobs throughout his life but especially enjoyed his time with the Flood Construction crew, where his strong work ethic was matched by his ability to keep everyone laughing.

Above all else, Steve loved his family deeply. He is survived by his wife, Judith (Judy) Taylor; his children Stephanie (Taylor) Mitchell and son-in-law Carrol Mitchell Jr., Amy Taylor McCaffrey, and Chris Taylor and daughter-in-law Holly (Bean) Taylor; his grandchildren Mandy (Mitchell) Chapman, Nichol (Mitchell) Solomon, Caitlin Taylor, Brodie Stephen McCaffrey, Julia Taylor, and Rylie Taylor; several great-grandchildren; and his sister Margery Switser. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers Frank Taylor, Robert Taylor, and Waldo Taylor Sr.; his sisters Claire Lyonnais and Sandra Meyette; his grandson Cody Mitchell; and his close friend John Hall Sr..

Steve was an avid outdoorsman who found his greatest joy in Vermont’s woods and waters. He cherished hunting season, spending countless days at deer camps, and quietly watching the woods come alive in winter. Fishing at Shadow Lake in Glover was another favorite pastime, where many peaceful hours were spent casting lines and making memories.

In his later years, Steve became a familiar and beloved presence at the Miss Lyndonville Diner, where he gathered each morning at “Table 8,” sharing stories, laughter, and local wisdom with friends. At home, he took pride in caring for his yard and maintaining a bountiful garden that his children and grandchildren enjoyed for years.

Some of the family’s most treasured memories were made around the pool Steve lovingly maintained each summer. Pool days at the Taylor home became a tradition where grandchildren learned to swim, laughed endlessly, and created moments that will be cherished forever.

Steve also had a special place in his heart for watching his son Chris play hockey during high school — a source of immense pride and joy for him as a father.

Per Steve’s wishes, no services will be held. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.guibordfh.com. Donations in Steve’s memory may be made to Meals on Wheels in Lyndonville.
