Mark Garrison, a legendary guitarist whose music touched the hearts of many across the nation and within the Ohio Valley, passed away peacefully at his home on September 4, 2025, with his devoted wife, Joylene, by his side. He was 69 years old.

Born on August 24, 1956, Mark's life was a testament to his passion for country music and his unwavering love for his family. It was music that first brought Mark and Joylene together, a harmonious connection that blossomed into a deep and enduring love story spanning many years. Mark's talent on the guitar for finger picking was truly exceptional, earning him a reputation as one of the finest musicians in the Ohio Valley. His mastery of the instrument allowed him to share stages with country music icons such as John Anderson, Leon Douglas, Slim Lehart, Freddie Fender, Little Jimmie Dickens, and Dave Dudley, as well as renowned artists like Darnell Miller and many others. His musical journey took him across the United States and Canada, leaving an indelible Mark wherever he played. He even toured with Governor Jay Rockefeller.

Locally, Mark was a fixture in the music scene, gracing countless venues with his signature picking style. He was a beloved member of various bands, including the Country Playboys, Buckshot, Southbound, Uptown Country, Streamline, Outlaw Country and many more bringing joy and rhythm to many audiences. He played for the LeGard Twins in Nashville, TN and was the band leader for the Honky Tonk Sweethearts. Mark's extraordinary talent also shone brightly on the grand stages of the Victoria Theater, Jamboree USA, Jamboree in the Hills and with the Jamboree Roadshow, further cementing his legacy as a truly gifted performer.

Mark had a profound appreciation for the outdoors, particularly finding peace and satisfaction tending to his yard and meticulously mowing the grass. His infectious sense of humor was a cherished part of his personality, always bringing laughter and joy to his wife, Joylene. Mark deeply cherished his role as a grandfather, relishing every moment spent with his granddaughters and sharing the rich tapestry of life with his extended family.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, Joylene Garrison; his daughter, Charity (Kevin) Caperton of Whitehouse, TN; his son, Shane (Jamie) Riggle of Dallas, WV; and his three adoring granddaughters, Kenzie (Zack) Norfleet of Whitehouse, TN, Abby Riggle, and Ella Riggle, both of Dallas, WV. He also leaves behind his brother, Jerry Garrison of Moundsville and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Lance Garrison, his brother, Roger Garrison, and his sister, Vickie Morningstar.

Mark Garrison will be remembered not only for his incredible musical gifts but also for his kind heart, his quick wit, and the profound love he had for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of beautiful music and countless cherished memories that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday, September 10, 2025 from 4 - 8 pm and Thursday, September 11, 2025 from 10 am until time of services at 11 am at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, Lutes & Kirby - Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville.
