Mark Twain Hayslett

Mark Twain Hayslett, age 79 of Parma, OH, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, February 19, 2026. He was born on March 15, 1946, in Pool, West Virginia, and was the second youngest of nine children to the late Calvin and Elva Hayslett (nee Humphries).

Mark attended Nicholas County High School. He soon embarked on a journey serving his country in the United States Army from 1963 to 1967, where he served as a Postal Clerk in Germany. Mark returned from service in May of 1967 and joined his brothers in Elyria, Ohio. Mark worked as a Shipping Clerk at Sears after his tour with the U.S. Army, as a crane operator at USS Steel, and then drove his semi-truck for four decades throughout the United States until his well-deserved retirement.

Mark was a faithful and loving husband of his beloved wife, Jeanell Hayslett (nee Thacker), who preceded him in death (1992) after 13 years of marriage, but she remained his guiding light and the unmerited gift from God that he deeply adored.

Mark was a beloved father of Tammy (John) Koleski of Elyria, OH; Pammy Richards (Thomas McGowan) of Wooster, OH; Sandy (Jess) Cathey of Parma, OH; and Jason (Liane) Hayslett of Strongsville, OH. Beloved Grandfather of Trisha Koleski, John J. Koleski, Isha (Mike) Cathey, Amanda Cathey, Elissa (Andrew) Hayslett, Allyson (Zen) Hayslett, and Eli Hayslett; Great-grandfather of Aydin, Brantley, Carsyn, and Molly. Uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

Mark was the brother to Marshall Hayslett, Mardolph "Marty" Hayslett, and Margene "Henry" Hayslett, and a loved brother to his sisters and brothers who preceded him, the late Marietta Halstead, the late Melba Amick, the late Marvel Hayslett, the late Mavis Hayslett, and the late Melvin Ray Hayslett.

In lieu of flowers, but not discouraged, the family kindly suggests that potted perennial plants or flowers may be sent to the American Legion Post 12, C/O Mark Hayslett CoL, 393 Ohio St, Elyria, OH 44035, or that a memorial contribution be made in his name to the American Legion Post 12, 393 Ohio St, Elyria, OH 44035, as a kind gesture for hosting his Celebration of Life.

A Celebration of Mark's life and Army Military Funeral Honors will take place at the American Legion Post 12, 393 Ohio St, Elyria, OH 44035 on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, from 3-6 pm (Service and Military honors will commence at 5:30pm). The family asks if anyone has photos or stories about Mark to share. Please bring those photos and stories to Mark's Celebration of Life so everyone can view and listen to those stories.
