Mark passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, March 6, 2026, at home under the care of his Father, Mark Holbert and Sheila Smith, his second mother.
Mark was born on June 9, 1992, in Summit, NJ, at Overlook Hospital. At the age of 3, Mark was diagnosed with Autism and Seizures, which limited his mental development, but not his joy. Mark was always known for his infectious smile and cooperative nature. His caregivers and medical providers always said Mark was better than their normal patients Mark lived and attended school in Metuchen, NJ. In 2007, Mark lost his mother, Verice M. Mason, to breast cancer. Mark graduated from Metuchen High School in June 2013. As a young adult, Mark attended a Day Program at Prime Time Center in Carteret, NJ.
In 2018, Mark moved with his Father and Sheila to Arizona, where Mark enjoyed the daily warm weather, sunshine, and blue skies; and swimming in the backyard pool, which he loved. Mark attended a Day Program at Alexander’s Abilities in Tempe, AZ where he was taught and cared for by a loving staff and surrounded by other program participants that greeted him warmly every weekday morning.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Mark’s Life on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at St. Paul’s Rock Creek Church, located at 201 Allison Street, NW, Washington, DC 20011, followed by a Repast on the grounds of St. Paul’s at the Gallery.
10:00 am – 11:00am Visitation with Family
11:00am – 12:00pm Celebration of Life Service
12:00pm – 2:00pm Repast
Mark will be Interred next to his Mother, Verice, at Glenwood Cemetery on a date and time in the future to be determined.
