Mark Alan Hollenbeck, 70, died from injuries received in a motorcycle accident on August 1, 2025 near Smith Center, KS. Mark was born in Hiawatha KS on August 25, 1954, first of two children born to Charles and Joyce (Lange) Hollenbeck. Mark (Buck) attended Hiawatha High school graduating with the class of 1972. Following high school he attended Pittsburg State where he was a proud TKE serving as president of his fraternity and earning his degree in Construction Engineering Wyoming was his choice to begin his work building railroads and the bridge over the Belle Fourche River at Devils tower and it was there he met and married the mother of his children Debbi Prell. He returned to his hometown for a short time to begin Kort Construction designing and building dome houses with his best and lifelong friend Jim Korthanke. Throughout his career his work took him all over the US where he managed construction projects, his favorite being one at the Pearl Harbor War Museum in Hawaii, which allowed him opportunity to enjoy his love of snorkeling, sun bleached hair and a great tan. He was a strong and nurturing father figure to his son, daughter, and granddaughters. Mark loved adventure, the outdoors, camping, and water sports and shared all these with his family. He made even the simple moments special and everyone loved their time with Papa. Retiring only a few short months ago, he left the busy front range of Colorado returning to his hometown to make his home, and enjoy the slower pace. Preceding him in death in 2000, is his father Charles Ray (Chuck) Hollenbeck. Mark is survived by his mother Joyce Hollenbeck of Clay Center, sister Judy Bailey of Wamego, his daughter, Colby Gail Hollenbeck, his son, Cody Alan Hollenbeck, and his granddaughters Jordyn Elizabeth Hollenbeck and Rylie Shea Hollenbeck all of Parker, Colorado, and several nieces and nephews. Mark's loving, giving spirit along with his infectious smile and laugh will be missed by everyone whose life he touched. Cremation is planned with a celebration of life service planned for the fall 2025 in Hiawatha.
