John Howard "Butch" Jones
June 4, 1942 – August 5, 2025

John Howard Jones, known to family and friends as Butch, died Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Prairie Sunset Home in Pretty Prairie, KS. He was born June 4, 1942, in Savanna, Illinois, to Howard and Virginia Harkness Jones.

Butch graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1960, where he served as class president of a graduating class of eight. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and attended Aviation Electronics Technician School in Corpus Christi, Texas. Upon completing his training, he was assigned to the USS Lexington.

After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Butch married Frances (Dianne) on December 11, 1964. Together they had three children: Lisa, Mike, and David. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Mike, and a brother Earl, two sisters Judy and Rhonda Jo in infancy.

He is survived by his children Lisa and David Jones, a brother Bill Jones of Hamlin, and leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In 1965, Butch began working for TWA and remained employed there until retiring at age 58.

Funeral services are planned for 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha, with Pastor Rich Lehmkuhl officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha, with military honors a courtesy of the Brown County Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha after 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday.
