Mark Thomas Kresak of Johnstown, PA passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Nov. 12th at the age of 61. Mark was born in Chicago, IL on November 4, 1962. He graduated from Richland HIgh School and attended University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown, where he was a member of the Delta Chi fraternity. After college, Mark lived in Ocean City, MD for 10 years, where he met his wife of 32 years, Jennifer Lichty Kresak. Mark worked in the restaurant business in Ocean City, where he made many lifelong friends and cherished memories.
After the birth of their 2 children, the Kresaks returned to Johnstown. Mark worked in a variety of industries, including surveying, construction, car sales, and photography. He started his own sign, graphic and print shop, HomeTeam Graphix. He also worked with the Tomahawks Hockey team, helping to manage game day operations. Mark was passionate about sports. A lifelong Pittsburgh sports fan, he would be sure to tell you that he was in the stadium with his family for the Immaculate Reception during the 1972 Steelers playoff game. He also supported many local teams, coaching hockey, Little League, youth football, and youth softball. In the past 10 years, he combined his love of sports and love of photography and took action shots at hundreds of Westmont Hilltop sporting events.
Mark passed away with his wife and children, Jonas Mark Kresak age 27, and Tristin Noel Kresak, age 25, by his side. He is preceded in death by his father, Dr. George Francis Kresak, beloved sister, Michelle (Kresak) Smith, and father-in-law Daryl "Skip" Lichty. He is survived by his mother, Agnes (Davidson) Gindlesperger and step-father Roy Gindlesperger, mother-in-law Doris (Hershey) Lichty, brothers George and Glenn (Dina), and sister Kris (Randy) Cortese, brothers'-in-law Joseph Smith, Greg (Kimi) Lichty and Matt (Shelly) Lichty, as well as step-siblings, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mark was able to give the gift of life through organ donation when he passed away. In lieu of flowers, his family is requesting donations for the Mark Kresak Memorial Fund, which will aim to sponsor local youth hockey teams each season. Donations can be made through the following link: https://gofund.me/590e2645. The family will be having a Celebration of Life at Rizzo's Restaurant of Windber on November 18th from 12:00-3:30 for anyone who knew Mark or his family.
