Mark Charles Miner, Husband, Father, and Grandfather of age 74, a resident of Westford, passed away at home on Saturday, February 17, 2024. He was surrounded by his wife Claire-Marie, son Garrett, daughter Caitlin-Marie, son-in-law Andy, and newborn grandson Keelson.
The oldest of six siblings, Mark was lovingly raised by Fred and Marge Miner in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Trinity High School class of 1968, continuing on to Penn State University earning a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation, Mark moved to Massachusetts to begin his engineering career at Codex/Motorola. He worked for twenty-five years before retiring as Director of Engineering at age 50. Mark continued his career at Airvana/CommScope for the next twenty years as Vice President of Hardware Engineering. Mark is cited as an inventor on three U.S. Patents in the telecommunication industry. He was recognized by his peers for his critical thinking, strong organizational and analytical skills, and the ability to bring surprising humor to dry technical presentations. He was most proud and humbled by the quality of people he worked with during his career.
Mark met Claire-Marie (Butler), his wife of 43 years, on a Motorola skiing trip. They enjoyed many hours on the racquetball court laughing with coworkers. An avid family sailor, he maintained his Cape Dory sailboat, "LORA", for the past 42 years in Wickford RI. The waters off of Massachusetts and Rhode Island became their summer backyard. Family sailing time spent exploring harbors and coves with Claire-Marie, daughter Caitlin-Marie and son Garrett was Mark's favorite pastime.
Upon Mark's second retirement he turned his attention to restoring his high school "date mobile", his 1948 Ford Super Deluxe. Spending hours in the garage with his son Garrett, the retired engineer found a new outlet for his creative problem-solving skills. Mark also found more time for traveling with his wife and visiting siblings. His family was his greatest joy and proudest legacy.
In addition to his caring wife, Mark leaves behind son Garrett C. Miner of Westford, daughter Caitlin-Marie, son-in-law Andy, and grandson Keelson Miner Ong of Brooklyn NY. He also leaves behind sister Lynn and brother-in-law Tom Cruse of Charleston, SC, brother Eric and sister-in-law Sharon Miner of Pine Meadow, CT, sister Leslie and brother-in-law JJ Dugan of Hanover, PA, sister Gretchen and brother-in-law Bruce Brown of Pittsburgh, PA and brother Curt of Harrisburg, PA, and numerous nephews and nieces.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 11:00 am, at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Rd, Chelmsford. Kindly gather at the church. There will be no visiting hours. Interment to follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, 20 Pine Ridge Rd, Westford. Due to the Lenten season, no flowers are allowed at church. A bereavement luncheon will follow.

Mark was my boss at Motorola Codex for several years. He was an excellent engineer and a great boss. He was also one of the hardest workers I have ever encountered. And I have many fond memories of our years working together. Even after he left Motorola we would often tell Mark Miner stories and always with a smile. He was loved.

My sincere condolences to his family. I am sure he will be missed.

Dave (Mac) McNamara chiming in here.
I worked for and with Mark early in my career at Motorola/Codex, as did my brother Tom. Mark brought a very unique balance of professionalism, creativity, deep analysis, a keen understanding of both the science and art of engineering and above all a quick sense of humor. You always knew if Mark found something funny by the huge smile, and bulging veins in his facial expressions. He was admirably contagious. His passion for family, friends and co-workers was only matched by his love for sailing. But he always found some way to work in some fishing... be it on the McNamara "stinkpot" as he would refer to our power boat or hanging off the stern of his sailboat. I can truly say that my memories of time spent working with or sailing with or just hanging out with Mark were always a pleasure, a learning experience but above all just fun. God Bless you my dear friend. Rest in Peace!

To Mark Miner's family:
My name is Jack Moran and I worked with Mark on many Codex Products that effectively started from the day I joined (then Codex) in 1981 until the day Mark Left then called Motorola in 2000.

All I can say is that he was both a very smart and dedicated engineer and it was an honor to work with Mark for a significant part of the 19 years that we were both at Codex together. I did happen to notice in the obituary that it was mentioned that Mark was the holder a few US PATENTS. Well I am co-inventor on one of Mark's US Patents along with Mike Cooper as well and the patent # is US 6,757,253 B1. If the family is interested in receiving a copy of an actual US PATENT that Mark held from his Codex days I would gladly send it.

I have looked at the patent a few times today already and with it comes memories of the engineering effort we shared together and I am certain Mike Cooper would feel the same way.

Again I am profoundly sorry for your loss and Mark made a difference during his time on earth and he will be missed.

I have very fond memories of Mark. I worked as a Receptionist at Airvana/Commscope before retiring 4 years ago. We had many conversations at the front desk. Accept my condolences for your loss.
