Mark A. Monaco, 64 of West Salem, Ohio died March 25, 2026 at Akron General Medical Center due to declining health. Mark was born December 8, 1961 in Uniontown, PA to parents John and Mary (Soltis) Monaco. He graduated from Laurel Highlands High School in Pennsylvania. Mark proudly served his country as an Army Ranger. Then he earned an Associate’s Degree in Aeronautics Engineering from the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. Mark then worked for United Airlines as an Airline Inspector until retirement on April 30, 2023 after working at the Cleveland branch for 36 years. Mark married his loving wife Joni Monaco in 1987. Mark was a member of James Steveston American Legion Post 499 in West Salem, Patriot Guard and a past member of Town and Country Fire Department as a Firefighter and Paramedic.
Mark leaves behind his wife Joni (Jellick) Monaco; children: Mara (Jonathan) Welch and Mark Monaco (Marissa Kelley); honorary son, Scott McLellan; brother, Anthony (Shirley) Monaco; step – sister, Delores (Lewis) Taylor; mother – in – law, Helen Jellick; brother – in – law, Tom (Dee) Jellick; sister – in – law, Kris (Keith) Martray; nieces and nephews: Angie (Art) Monaco, Steve Monaco, Michael Jellick, Nathan (Marissa) Jellick, Keith Martray and Jillian Martray; step nieces and nephews: Troy Pots, Patty Giles, Joe Taylor and Linda Williams; grand nieces and nephews: Allie, Wyatt and Emmett and many other family members.
Mark is preceded in death by his son, Joey Monaco; parents; brothers: Steve and John (Diane) and father-in-law, Ron Jellick.
The visitations for Mark will be Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Matteson Funeral Home, 40 Congress Street, West Salem, Ohio 44287. The second visitation will be Monday, March 30, 2026 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Gates Funeral Home, 136 N Gallatin Ave, Uniontown, PA 15401. With the funeral being the next day, Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 10:00 the Gates Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services at Sylvan Heights Cemetery in Uniontown, PA.
