Obituary of Mark H. Murray
Mark H. Murray of Rumney, NH, formerly of Dracut, MA and Burlington, MA and his wife, Sue, tragically passed in a car accident on Thursday night, October 17, 2024. He was 61 years. Mark had resided in Rumney, NH for the past 3 years and had previously lived in Dracut, MA for over 20 years and grew up in Burlington, MA. Mark was born in Woburn, MA. He was the son of Thomas E. Murray, Jr. and Florence (Wagner) Murray. He had a wonderful childhood growing up in Burlington. His family loved outdoor activities like skiing, snowmobiling, boating, and times spent at their vacation home on Lake Winnipesaukee. Later on in Rumney Mark found a new love of lazy rivers and his hot tub. Mark took after his father when it came to working with his hands. He owned Murray Landscaping, Legacy Landscaping, and worked as a carpenter, and general contractor.
Mark was a free spirit, extremely passionate, hardworking, and bit of an entrepreneur. He was never afraid to try something new, never worried about embarrassing himself, and always made lasting connections with others. For example, not long after moving to Rumney, he ran for Board of Selectmen position in town. He knew wasn't going to win, but it gave him the opportunity to meet many of the residents of Rumney. His Rumney home had a barn and land, so he started raising pigs and chickens and was planning to buy a cow. He loved being a "Picker". He went to yard sales and flea markets collecting furniture, collectibles, and other household goods. He would then either bring them back to life in creative ways or he would spread the tall tales of the item's connection to the civil war, because according to him all his things were from the civil war. Mark made sure each of his treasures had a fantastic story that he loved sharing to anyone within earshot. He continued his love for snowmobiling and boating and recently added motorcycling. He was always singing around his home and was always willing to take a microphone and sing Karaoke. Some of his go to songs were "My Way", "A Wonderful World", and "Bohemian Rhapsody". He might not have been the best singer, but he had a heck of a lot of fun doing it and he always brought the room together. Mark was extremely proud of his semi retirement era. Between getting his dream house, raising farm animals, making new friends, instigating interesting discussions, and having his beautiful wife at his side and the support and love of children in his life, Mark was thriving. He had so much to be proud of and he wasn't ashamed to boast about it all. He enjoyed learning about history, taking something apart to see how it works, and a good, long, and loud nap. He could be strong-headed, and unabashed, but that was Mark- confident, proud, and entertaining. He was just letting all hang out to bring a laugh or smile. There could only be one "Mark Murray" in the world. He will be sadly missed, but the memories and stories will always bring a smile to the faces of his family and friends that he was always so loyal and dedicated to.
Mark was the beloved husband of Susan "Sue" A. (Rose) Murray who passed alongside him. He was the father of Kylie Murray of Dracut and Mark Murray of Dracut & his girlfriend Madison Grover. Mark was the brother of Thomas E. Murray, III, & his wife Laura of Meredith, Ted Murray & his wife Stacy of Naples, FL, and Maureen Wall & her husband Ed of Woburn. Mark was also survived by many aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington, MA on Friday, October 25 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will end with a service beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. I met Mark at his second hand shop in Dracut years ago. He was a wonderful friend. Very loyal and very kind to myself and my daughter Grace. We shared interests in collecting and in family. He helped me in so many things. I will miss him terrible.
