Mark Anthony Prokopich, age 53, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. Mark was born on July 9, 1959 in St. Louis, MO, a son to Alexander and Carolyn (Cook) Prokopich. Mark had worked at National Steel, Granite City, IL; he worked in the coal area before retiring after thirty one years of dedicated service. Mark was of the Baptist Faith, he enjoyed reading his bible, collecting coins and playing dominoes. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his five granddaughters whom he adored. Mark will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Alexander A. Prokopich. He is survived by his loving children, Nindy (Jeff) Morrison of Belleville, IL and Alex Prokopich of Maryville, IL; five granddaughters, Rylee Gobble, Raegan and Reese Morrison and Alexis and Anastasia Prokopich; mother, Carolyn Prokopich Cole of Springfield, IL; one brother, Steven (Lorraine) Prokopich of Elsah, IL; two sisters, Kerry (Joseph) Ruggeri of Springfield, IL and Susan Montgomery of Granite City, IL; many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. Visitation: friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Rd. Granite City, IL. In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL. www.irwinchapel.com
