Mark A. Quinn passed away peacefully after a long illness February 26, 2015.

Quinn, 56, lived most of his life near his hometown of Akron. He was disabled by psychiatric illnesses that may have been triggered by a childhood accident, but he became an accomplished musician and writer. He studied classical guitar at the University of Akron and with several gifted private teachers, including protégés of the great Andres Segovia. Quinn leaves behind a large body of instrumental and vocal compositions, notably including “My Elvis Tattoo,” “Penny In My Pocket,” and “Over You.” As a writer, he produced voluminous amounts of poetry and prose. Quinn’s best works were witty, insightful explorations of fate - often expressed in a darkly comic style uniquely his own.

Quinn is survived by brothers, Edward of Green, James of North Canton; and many nieces and nephews. He was particularly grateful for many loving kindnesses extended by sister-in-law, Jeanette Quinn and niece, Lisa Quinn. He was preceded in death by parents, Edward and Mary (nee Stevenson) of Akron; sister, Cherie Craig of Rootstown; and longtime partner, Alice Amore of Cleveland.

A memorial service will be held Friday, 1:30 p.m. at Community Support Services, located at 640 Wolf Ledges Pkwy., Akron 44311. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Community Support Services of Summit County, which helped Quinn to live as a happy, productive, independent adult. Send checks to 150 Cross St., Akron, OH 44311 or online at cssbh.org/donate.
