Passing from this world to the next and leaving a hole in our hearts, Nancy Cordier Bauer was ushered into Heaven on Thursday, July 17, 2025, after a three-year battle of living with lungs destroyed by Covid.
Born in Akron, Ohio, Nancy Cordier Bauer leaves behind a huge legacy that points to her love of family and Jesus Christ. She was a daughter, a little sister, a wife, and mother of four, a teacher, a friend, an historian, and a believer in Christ. To know her was to be seen and cared for; her heart was often too big for her little body.
Many of Nancy’s years were dedicated to her work at Copley High School, first as an English teacher, then a French teacher, and finally as a German teacher. She was Frau Bauer, and a teacher with heart who truly cared for her students. When not teaching, she was singing in the choir at The Chapel, her passion for 30 years, or caring for her children—and eventually her 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
While Nancy fought hard these last three years, her strength of person and joy in purpose never waned as she loved her continually growing family and devoted time to the Mogadore Historical Society. Nancy’s heart would not allow her to sit idly in a world of need.
Preceded in death by her parents Albert and Luella Heupel Cordier, her daughter Tammi Crain, and grandson Asher Cole, Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, David R. Bauer Jr.; her children Sherri Bauer Landis (Mike) of Colorado Springs, CO; son-in-law Will Crain of Leland, NC; son David R. Bauer III (Sheila) of Green, OH; and Col. Erik M. Bauer (Izabela), currently serving in Athens, Greece. She is also survived by her sisters, Kristine Karnezis (George) of Portland, OR; Suzi D’Annolfo of West Hartford, CT; brother Jim Cordier (Betty) of Mesa AR; brother- and sister-in-law Bill and Barb Bauer of Mogadore; and brother-in-law Michael Bauer of Tallmadge. Finally, she is survived by her twelve adoring grandchildren, Alissa (Luke) Cole, David (Hayley) Bauer, Ashley (Mark) Spontarelli, Celeste (Justin) Baisden, Alyssa (Anthony) Garcia, Josh Landis, Jessi (Tori) Jones, Caleb (Ashleigh) Landis, Levi (Abby Bauer, Hailey (Kenneth) Cross, Isaac Bauer, and Henry Bauer, as well as her 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 24 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hopkins Funeral Home in Ellet, with services held at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Nancy’s memory to the Mogadore Historical Society, 87 South Cleveland Ave., Mogadore, OH. 44260.
