Mark Avery Sassmann, of Steelville, MO, was born on Saturday, April 27, 1957, in Washington, MO, to Charles Avery Sassmann and Mary Louise Sassmann, nee Fuller. He passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at University Hospital in Columbia, MO, at the age of 68 years, 2 months and 20 days.
Mark graduated in the Class of 1976 from Fox Senior High School in Arnold, MO. He joined the United States Army where he served his country honorably. He worked as a truck driver for many years, but the job that he took most pride in, was being "dad" to his son, Seth. Mark had accepted the Lord at a young age and previously attended Steelville First Assembly. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and Joachim #64 in Hillsboro, MO. He enjoyed music, the outdoors, fishing and hunting for deer and squirrels. Most of all, Mark loved spending time with his son, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles (Helen) Sassman and step-father, Robert "Bob" Crews.
Mark is survived by his mother, Mary Crews of Manchester, MO; son, Seth (Haley) Sassmann of Camdenton, MO; 3 grandsons: Dean, Jack and Benny Sassmann of Camdenton, MO; sisters, Annette (Jim) Sieve of Defiance, MO, Bethany (Curtis) Bowen of Camdenton, MO and Angela DiMercurio (Chris Zwolak) of St. Louis, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation was from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO. Funeral Service immediately followed at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Burial with full military honors at MO Veteran's Cemetery in St. Robert, MO. Memorials were suggested to Shriner's Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
