Mark enjoyed watching and playing sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Blues fan. He loved his family, and he had an uncanny ability to bring a smile wherever it was needed. He was always ready to tell you a good story and loved his puppies, Samuel L. Jackson and Carree.
He was preceded in death by his uncle, Thomas Epperson; and his step-brother, Eric D. Cash.
Surviving are his parents, Mary Jean (Epperson) Shands of Troy, IL and Drew (Aline) Shands of Glen Carbon, IL; brother, Matthew E. Shands of Troy, IL; step-sisters, Tammie (Jim) Busch of Troy, IL and Stacie (Kevin) Thomas of O'Fallon, MO; aunts and uncles, Christy Waxelman, Donna Shands, Thomas (Judy) Shands, Philip Shands, Brenda Shands, Patti Shands, and Bob Shands; cousins and many many dear friends
Memorials may be made to Partners for Pets, Troy, IL or Illinois Center for Autism, Fairview Heights, IL. Online expressions of sympathy may be made at www.Richesonfh.com
Visitation for Mark will be held 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, October 12. 2022 at Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, IL. Mark's family requests that you wear your favorite Cardinals or Blues jersey to celebrate Mark's life well lived.
Funeral services will be held at 7 pm on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, IL with Rev. Jay Carr officiating with interment in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Glen Carbon, IL.

Mark was my best friend for 2019 till his passing. It's amazing how much of a positive influence he has been on my life. He was really an exceptional human being. I will miss him for the rest of my life.
