Mark Douglas Shellberg

 

Military Honors for Lamar resident, Mark Douglas Shellberg will be held at a later date in the Veteran’s section of Fairmount Cemetery.

 

Mark was born on December 13, 1955 at Council Bluffs, Iowa to Norman Gail and Shirley Ann (Chadwick) Shellberg and died at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado on January 21, 2023 at the age of 67.

 

Mark is preceded in death by his infant brother Jeremy, brother Michael and father Gail.

 

He is survived by his mother Shirley of Windsor, CO; daughter Elizabeth (Brydon) Kilber of Fort Collins, CO; partner/best friend Brenda Herrera of Lamar and his brothers and sister, Brian and Lena Shellberg of Lamar; Barbara and Frank Mages of Spearville, KS; David and Natasha Shellberg of Boise, ID; Dana and Peggy Shellberg of Windsor, CO; Jerome and Dawn Shellberg of Prosper, TX; extended family; Adrienne Herrera, Arai Warren and Brielle Gameros; Sasha Herrera, Paul Lucero, Arien and Azilea Lucero; Tand and Lydia Herrera; close friend Carlos Herrera all of Lamar, CO. Mark is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles other family and many friends.

 

Mark grew up on a small farm in Iowa and then moved to Lamar in the 7th grade. He graduated from Lamar High School with the class of 1974. Following graduation, Mark joined the United States Marine Corp entering active duty on January 10, 1975. He served 18 months overseas during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on January 9, 1978 where he was transferred to the Marine Corps Reserve. Mark served his country for 6 years and during this time he was awarded 2 meritorious promotions. Following his service to his country, Mark worked as a land surveyor for 23 years. In 2007 Mark moved back to Lamar to live with his high school sweetheart Brenda. Where he worked for a time at Bear Creek surveying in La Junta, CO. Mark then worked for a number of years at American Transit where he did bus refurbishment. After his working years Mark enjoyed his time traveling, taking care of the yard, tinkering in the garage and enjoying time with family and friends.

 

Per Mark’s request, the service will be a private family graveside service and will honor his service to his country.
