Gary Eldon Henson
A celebration of life for longtime Lamar resident Gary Eldon Henson will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at the Peacock Family Chapel with Pastor Paul Floyd of the High Plains Fellowship Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation for Gary will be held from 2:00PM until 5:00PM on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at the Peacock Family Chapel.
Gary was born on January 27, 1943 at Olney Springs, Colorado to Guthra and Lois (Walker) Henson and passed away on January 19, 2026 with his family by his side at the age of 82.
He is preceded in death by his father Guthra Henson, mother Lois and step-father Lowell Hanson, siblings Dale Hanson, Ron Hanson, Cathy Mathews and Dolores Nelson.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Verna Henson of the family home in Lamar, CO, sons David (Melody) Henson of Lafayette, IN and Gary Wayne (Annette) Henson of Lamar, CO, by five granddaughters Shawna Nelson, Sondra (Jordan) Stewart, Sara Snapp all of IN and Amy (Mike) Mulaney and Brittany Henson both of Lamar, CO. He is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and a host of friends.
Gary was a very active business man. He ran several service stations and was also a mechanic. He sponsored several bowling teams and was a bowler also. He was a member of the Lamar Eagles for forty years and worked their bingo program for several years. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He loved to hunt and fish, he enjoyed being in the fishing tournaments. In his younger days he was a member of the Challenger Gun Club. He was in several shooting events. They put on several shows. He enjoyed being with his family. He loved his family so much. He will be missed by family and many friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lamar Eagles Lodge either direct or in care of the funeral home office.
