Mark J. Simon

Mark Joseph Simon, lifelong resident of St. Johns, died at home on December 17, 2025. He was 76 years old. He was born on June 29, 1949, the fourth of five children born to Victor and Edelwina (Thelen) Simon. Mark graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in 1967 and grew up on the family farm. After high school, he served in the Army Reserves.
He met Elizabeth "Betty" Wilhelm through family, and they were married on her birthday, February 12, 1972, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They raised their family in St. Johns and were married for fifty-three years.
Mark enjoyed welding, fixing cars, yearly fishing trips to Canada, boating and camping. He worked for many years at General Motors. He enjoyed working on the neighbor's farm, and following retirement, he also stayed busy working on other people's houses. He was mischievous, hardworking, handy, and always busy.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; his sons, Joe and Steve; his goddaughter, Maureen (James) Hohler; and his siblings, Mary Simon and Norbert (Darlene) Simon, as well as nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Joyce Simon and Jerry Simon.
Cremation has taken place. Services will be held in 2026. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
