Mark Thiel

Mark George Thiel, age 60, of New Lothrop, passed away peacefully at his home on January 3, 2025, after a brief illness.
Mark was born on February 12, 1964, to George and Marilyn (Johnson) Thiel in Flint, Michigan. He graduated from New Lothrop High School with the class of 1982. He worked for many years with his dad in his construction business before joining the International Union of Elevator Constructors, where he had been installing elevators for the past 18 years, most recently working for Schumacher Elevator Company with Local 132 out of Madison, WI.
When he was not on the road for work, Mark was fishing. Some of his best days were spent on the water with his fishing buddies! He especially loved the Great Lakes off the shores of Manistee, Frankfort, and Ludington, trolling for salmon and steelhead. He also enjoyed afternoons on smaller lakes and rivers looking for panfish. If you knew Mark, you would also have known how special his nieces and nephews (and great-nieces/nephews) were to him. He would have done just about anything for them; they will miss him dearly.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved mother, Marilyn; sisters, Deb (Steve) Casassa, Pam (Randy) Henige, and Kelly Thiel; eight nieces and nephews: Denelle Klein, Michael (Kaylee) Casassa, Jordan (Krystal) Casassa, Jessica (Kyle) Miller, Brittney (Jovanni) Suarez, Natalie (Eli) Gentry, Joe (Trisha) Gross, and Ashley (Corey) Adams; 15 great-nieces and nephews; his beloved dog, Data; as well as many loving family members and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, George Thiel.
A special thank you to Heartland Hospice and his special friends who were by his side, especially his niece Denelle, who helped him through this journey to its end.
Per Mark's wishes a memorial will be held at a later date.
