Mark Edward Thompson
March 26, 1957 - January 25, 2023
Mark Edward Thompson (Scott) died unexpectedly on January 25, 2023, in
Selma, CA at the age of 65.
Mark is survived by his mother, Patsy Jorgensen Scott, of Selma; wife, Kimberly Vercoe Thompson; stepsons, Ryan Chapman and Scott Crisp; siblings, Linden Thompson (Sandra), Sharon Allen, and Ronda Thompson; stepsisters, Tammy Noell and Karlene Thompson. He is preceded in death by his father, Ronald Thompson, of
Reno, Nevada.
Mark was born on March 26, 1957, in
Selma, CA to Patsy Jorgensen and Ronald Thompson. He spent his early years in Selma, and the majority of his childhood in
Reseda, CA. As a Freshman in high school, the Scott family returned to Selma, and Mark happily traded his skateboard for a horse vowing never to leave Selma again. He graduated from Selma High school in 1975.
Mark's strong work ethic began with his first job at Helm's Shell Station in Selma. At age 20 he secured a job with the Fresno County Public Works. He enjoyed being a Heavy Equipment Operator, and retired as a Road Foreman after 35 years, at the young age of 55. Mark also enjoyed 17 years as a Selma Volunteer Fire Fighter. While his work was gratifying, it was the lifelong friendships that he most cherished.
In 1998, Mark married the love of his life, Kimberly Vercoe Thompson on the beach in Maui, Hawaii. At 25 years of marriage the two continued their strong bond as spouses and best friends. Mark valued his relationships with stepsons, Ryan Chapman (Amy ) and Scott Crisp ( Heidi ). He also felt very connected to his step grandkids, April, Alyssa, and London. He loved his nieces and nephews, Erica, Heather, Brandon, Brian, and Timmy. He was especially close with his sister, Sharon's, grandchildren, Robert, Madison, and Kaylee. Mark loved children and was always the family member in pictures holding a baby. He was a man of strong values and held tight to his faith in God and love for his family.
Mark was a man of many interests. He enjoyed playing baseball, football, boating, guitar, years of roping, hunting and fishing, but his greatest interest was in racing. After retirement he fulfilled his goal to restore a vintage hard top racing car and spent many hours at the racetrack with his friends from the Legends of Kearney Bowl (LOKB). Of Mark's many attributes the trait all will remember him by was his sense of humor. He could keep people laughing for hours with his sharp wit and keen ability to identify the whimsical irony of life.
