Mark Richard Welch of Trumansburg passed away unexpectedly at Cayuga Medical Center on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at the age of 75. Mark's life was a rich tapestry woven from his deep love for family, his enduring friendships, and a kid-like spirit that embraced adventure. Respected as a devoted father and grandfather, Mark cherished time spent with loved ones, teaching the joys of life and creating memories that will last for generations.
Mark was born in Ithaca on June 22, 1950, a son of the late Edward and Tosca (Gori) Welch. Growing up in Trumansburg, Mark graduated from Charles O. Dickerson High School in the Class of 1968. He embarked on a career with the US Forest Service, followed by his work at Wagner Lumber. Mark also owned and operated his own logging business, Welch Forest Products and most recently, he served as the manager for the Hector Cooperative Grazing Association.
Mark's hands held the magic to create—he built his own home, carved intricate ducks, and could build and fix anything. A true jack of all trades, he delighted in outdoor adventures, whether it was fishing on the lake, boating under the sun, or gathering around bonfires. His commitment to the outdoors extended to coaching baseball and trap shooting, as he inspired young athletes at all levels, from Little League to Babe Ruth, and even recently founded the Trumansburg High School Trap Team.
His passion for music added another layer to his colorful personality finding joy in the melodies of artists such as CCR, Bob Seger, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. A true movie buff, Mark loved all types of movies from the classics to the not-so-classics.
Mark's home was a sanctuary filled with laughter and lively conversations, where dinner time was sacred and always an occasion for joyous connection. He was always up for the next adventure, leading his children and grandchildren on sledding trips, skiing escapades, and ice skating frolics, never hesitating to share the simple pleasures of life outdoors.
Mark is survived by his wife, Terry Boyd Welch; four children, Chelsea (AJ) LeViere, Garrett (Lori) Welch, Brett Welch, and Ashleigh (Stephen) Catalfamo; eleven grandchildren, Joey, Brock, Tristan, Jack, Marin, Dane, Hannah, Jackson, Gavin, and Robert; siblings, Linda Langley, David (Rhoda) Welch, and Laura (Bill) Hager; sisters in law, Elena Welch and Kimberly deCoudres; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mark was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Welch; granddaughter, Audrey Catalfamo; and nephew, Camden Rundell.
The family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, February 27, 2026 at the Trumansburg United Methodist Church, 80 East Main Street, Trumansburg.
