Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Faith Lutheran Church, Harvey, ND with burial following in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND. Visitation will be Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND. Marlan was born on April 21, 1947, in Tacoma, Washington to Alvin Arlo Faul and Elaine (Heitmann) Faul. During his infancy, Marlan moved with his parents to a farm south of Harvey, North Dakota. His early years were spent working the fields and milking Holsteins on the family farm. As the oldest of six, Marlan was a much-adored older brother, and his impact on his younger sisters and brother was deep and profound. Marlan graduated from Harvey High School in 1965 and from North Dakota State University with an electrical engineering degree in 1969. On his graduation from NDSU, he went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation in Bismarck, ND. Marlan soon realized that he was not built for being inside at a desk, and he moved to Minot, ND where he became a Master Electrician. He worked for Larson Electric and Main Electric until 1979, when he branched out on his own and founded Faul Electric. Marlan was an avid reader, and he loved to spend time outside with his two chocolate labs, Ginger and Mocha. He enjoyed hosting friends and family at his cabin on Strawberry Lake near Russo, ND. At the cabin, Marlan could often be found working in his garden or giving boat rides to friends and neighbors. His generosity with his time, financial resources, and garden produce was a blessing to many. Marlan was a wonderful influence on his many nieces and nephews, and as an avid amateur photographer, he could frequently be found taking pictures at sporting events, plays, concerts, graduations, and weddings for family and friends. During his later career, Marlan went to work at Minot Air Force Base as a civilian electrical engineer, and he retired formally from his position at the Air Force Base in 2017. He continued to work part time as owner of Faul Electric, and he fully retired in 2024. Marlan was preceded in death by his grandparents and father. He is survived by his mother Elaine Palmer of Enderlin, ND; brother Scott, Des Moines, IA; sister-in-law Shauna Faul, Harvey, ND; sisters Rita Caswell, Wetumpka, AL, ReNae Martello, Woodstock, GA, Becky (Ray) Martinmaas, Orient, SD, and Marcia (Darryl) Martin, West Fargo, ND; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends and colleagues.
