Marlene Joyce Johnson

Marlene Joyce Malueg Eggert Johnson, age 91, of Shawano, passed away at home on February 28, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Almon, Shawano County, Wisconsin, on February 18, 1935, Marlene was the daughter of Lawrence and Mable (Kloth) Malueg. She was baptized on March 31, 1935.

Marlene married her first true love, Larry Dean Eggert, on July 6, 1959. Years later, she was blessed to find love again and married Richard Lee “Dick” Johnson on April 22, 1995, at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano, Wisconsin.

Marlene is survived by her stepsons, Jeff (Sandy) Johnson (MN), and Brad (Lori) Johnson (FL); three grandchildren: Anna (Justin) Oseka (NE), Lauren (Luca) Fruzza (UK), and Drew (Aleena) Johnson (CO); and twin great granddaughters, Kate Oseka and Kinley Oseka.

She is also survived by her sister in law, Marion Malueg (WI); her nieces, including her angel, Pam (late Bruce) Boldig (WI), Janine (Scott) Schoepke (WI), Delaine (Jim) Schroeder (WI), Lori (Kerry) Pruitt (TX) and Lisa Fenhouse (TX); nephew, Jeff O’Brien (WI); and the great-nieces and nephews she lovingly considered “bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren:” Jessica (Chris) Singer (WI) and their children, Peyton and Mason; Devin (Sam) Diaz (TX); Shane Schoepke (CO); Justin Schroeder (WI); Kristen Schroeder and her daughter, Cataleya Schroeder (WI); Caroline (Eric) Hale, and their children, Charlee and Austin (TX); Kimberlee (Sam) Harrison (TX) and Vincent and Theodore O’Brien (WI).

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Diane (Maurice) Boldig and Roger Malueg; her first true love, Larry; her second true love, Dick; and her nephew, Bruce Boldig.

Marlene lived a life grounded in faith, family, and the simple joys that brought her deep contentment. With her sister Diane and brother Roger, she grew up in the country surrounded by neighborhood friends, outdoor games, skating on the river in winter, and swimming in the summer. She cherished her siblings throughout her life, later reflecting that what she loved most about them was simple and profound: “We had great love for each other. And there’s nothing greater than love.” 

Marlene began her career at the Shawano County Courthouse as secretary to the Superintendent of Schools. Though she enjoyed her work and had no plans to leave, she was personally recruited by leadership at Badger Breeders (21st Century Genetics). She accepted the opportunity and went on to serve the cooperative with dedication and pride for nearly 39 years. 

Her faith was the foundation of her life. Through joys and hardships alike, she leaned on the Lord for strength, often saying that her faith carried her through situations she could never have faced alone. Reflecting on her blessings only deepened that faith. 

Marlene treasured her relationships, especially her lifelong friendship with Nancy Lueck. Together with their husbands, they shared decades of camping trips, travels, gatherings, and laughter. Even when health challenges made visits harder, their bond remained strong. 

Music brought Marlene great joy. She loved Kenny G, the Canadian Brass, classic country, and light classical music — but her favorite musician was always Dick and his tuba. She cherished the concerts of the Allouez Village Band and held dear the memory of seeing The Three Tenors in Minneapolis.

Marlene was an outdoor enthusiast enjoying years of hunting, fishing, and archery—literally being eyes for first husband, Larry, during their adventures.

Traveling with Dick created more adventures and memories. Their five week trip through the Southwest and their unforgettable cruise to Alaska were among her most cherished memories. From glaciers to deserts, national parks to small towns, Marlene embraced the beauty of the world with gratitude and wonder. 

At home, she expressed her love through cooking. Family favorites included Texas Caviar, Hot Beef Sandwiches with molasses, Pistachio Torte, Pecan Meltaway cookies, Cranberry cake, and her fried chicken. She loved hosting holidays and family gatherings, filling her home with warmth, food, and good ole’ chaos. 

Marlene also loved to read, especially light romances and mysteries, but one of her great joys was entertaining in her home, especially in her later years playing cards and dominos with her gals. But who are we kidding? It was all about the desserts.

Christmas was one of her favorite times of year. She loved attending church on Christmas Eve, gathering at Janine and Scott’s afterward, and continuing the family tradition of scratch off lottery cards — never big winners, but always big laughs. Christmas Day meant dinner and football at her home, surrounded by the people she loved. 

Through every chapter of her life, Marlene carried herself with grace, gratitude, and a deep appreciation for the blessings she was given. She lived fully, loved deeply, and left a legacy of kindness, faith, and devotion that will be cherished forever.

A woman of deep faith, Marlene became a member of Zion Lutheran Church on August 2, 1962, and remained an active and devoted member throughout her life. Her Celebration of Life will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Ludford, on Saturday.
