Marlene Pollock (Wermter), 85, a life-long resident of South Range, died peacefully at Benedictine Health Center on February 8, 2024.
Marlene was born in 1938, the daughter of Fredrick and Anna Wermter. Her early life was spent on her family farm, where she developed a love for plants and animals through her work with 4H. As she graduated from high school in 1956, Marlene had achieved distinction as a youth correspondent for the Superior Evening Telegram.
Marlene married Robert (Frank) Pollock in 1956 and the two settled in South Range to begin their 66-year marriage. The following years saw the birth of their four children. During those years, Marlene pursued her talent as a seamstress, sewing all kinds of clothing, including formal gowns and wedding dresses for her daughters. She was also well-known for her green thumb. Her yards were filled with blooming flowers and lush shrubs. She tended acres of the kids' favorite vegetables. If you came to visit Marlene, you would likely take home at least one perennial or a healthy slip from one of her houseplants.
Marlene is survived by her children: Robert (Bob) Pollock, Diana (Dede) Paquette, Patrick (Pat) Pollock, and Sharon Naumann; by her grandchildren, Aidan Paquette, Michael Naumann, Rachel Pollock, Lindsey Paquette, Alicia Pollock, and Devin Naumann; and by her great grandchild, Nora Rose Naumann.
A celebration of Marlene's life will be held on Friday, February 23rd at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19th St., Superior, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
