Marlene Gertrude Swang, 91, of Mizpah, MN passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at the Littlefork Care Center in Littlefork, MN.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Cease Family Funeral Home in Blackduck, MN. A luncheon will follow the service at Shining Light Café in Northome, MN. Interment will be in Mizpah Cemetery in Mizpah, MN at a later date.
Marlene was born on March 16, 1931 in Page, ND to Arnold and Gertrude (Zick) Bjorke. She graduated from Page High School in 1950 and then went to work at Gate City Bank and Loan in Fargo, ND. Marlene met and married Raymond Swang of Harvey, ND on March 27, 1954 at Page Lutheran Church and resided in Harvey, ND. Together they had 5 children.
Marlene worked in pediatrics at St. Joseph's Hospital in Fargo, ND before moving to Mizpah, MN in 1966. She then went to work at the Northome Nursing Home as a nurse's aide and later working as the Activities Department Head. She enjoyed sharing her love of crafting, food and the outdoors with the residents by making home-made crafts, cookies, ice cream, lefse, sharing the outdoors through camping, fishing, and grilling outdoors. She retired from the Nursing Home in 1995. Marlene was also active in the Ladies VFW Auxiliary of Northome, helping to make quilts for veterans and those in need. She also enjoyed helping with community events by volunteering and cooking. She was also a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Mizpah and it's Ladies Aid, and the Mizpah Farmer's Club. Marlene so enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, sharing with them all the things she enjoyed doing.
Marlene is survived by her husband, Raymond Swang of Mizpah, MN; their 5 children, Bruce (Bernie) Swang of Barnum, MN, Bradley (Marian) Swang of Mizpah, MN, Brenda (James) Wright of Park Rapids, MN, Dwight (Becky) Swang of Mizpah, MN, and Mary (Kris) Powell of Effie, MN; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a niece.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Gertrude Bjerke; brothers, Roger Bjorke and Thomas Bjorke; and grandson, Shane Swang.
