Marlie J. Lanthrip, Jr., better known as Snooty, to all who knew and loved him, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Kendall Heights Church of God with Reverend Bobby Williford, Reverend Weston Williford, Reverend Danny May, and Reverend Quint Shepherd officiating. His nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at May and Smith Funeral Home.
Snooty was born in Sandersville, the son of the late Marlie J. Lanthrip, Sr., and the late Mattie Lizzie Sellars Lanthrip. He served his community from 1992 to 2001 as a Deputy with the Washington County Sheriff's Office, and an officer with Sandersville and Davisboro Police Departments. Snooty was a general contractor and could make anything work when it came to building and construction. He enjoyed cooking and feeding people and was known near and far for his awesome BBQ and delicious steaks. In his free time, he liked to watch Gunsmoke and Wrestling, and he especially liked going fishing. Snooty also really looked forward to spending time with his special group of friends, whether that meant taking a trip to the mountains, going on a cruise, or just going out to eat locally. He had a great big heart, and was always willing to help anyone, from anywhere. Above all else Snooty loved God first, secondly, his family (especially his grandchildren), and finally, his church. Snooty was a faithful and dedicated member of Kendall Heights Church of God. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Larry J. Lanthrip, Connie L. Usry, Dale L. Davis, Pat L. Baucom, and Betty L. Williford.
Snooty is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Tina Baucom Lanthrip; son, Marlie J. "Jake" Lanthrip III, of Sandersville; daughters, Monica L. Swint and her husband Jamie of Sandersville, and Audrey Lanthrip and her husband Jon Sheley of Davisboro; child by choice, Chris Lanthrip; foster child, Trent Hannah; grandchildren, Austin Swint and his wife Megan, Matt Swint, Kristen Swint, Jakob Lanthrip, Vada Lanthrip, Parker J. Lanthrip, and Cain Sheley; great granddaughters, Carlee and Lainey Swint; sister, Elaine Lanthrip; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations a be made in Snooty's memory. to the Building Fund of Kendall Heights Church of God, 829 Jordan Mill Road, Sandersville, GA 31082.
