Marlyn Balvanz

Marlyn Balvanz, 84, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at his home in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls with burial in the Pleasant Hill Grant Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls.
Marlyn Eugene Balvanz was born on November 1, 1939, in Eldora to Theodore and Meryl (Imsland) Balvanz. After graduating from Iowa Falls High School, Marlyn enlisted into the United States Marine Corps, where he served from 1960 to 1964.
On August 18, 1967, Marlyn married Linda Carothers, in Marshalltown, Iowa. Marlyn was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he served in various leadership roles, including President, Elder, Sunday School teacher, and confirmation teacher.
In addition to his church involvement, Marlyn served his community as a Grant Township Trustee and was a member of the Grant Township Cemetery Board. Marlyn enjoyed playing cards, farming, and driving truck.
Marlyn is survived by his wife, Linda Balvanz, of Iowa Falls, and his sons, Brian Balvanz and Bruce (Ranae) Balvanz, both of Iowa Falls. He is also survived by his step-granddaughters, Kristine Rosol of Elkader, Trisha Kaiser of Waverly, Mandy (Ben) Bowman of Waverly, and Jenny (Nick) Mitthun of Grafton, as well as eight step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Meryl Balvanz, and his sisters, Karen Heitland and Barbara Roberts.
