Marlys Joanne Oothoudt passed away on January 16, 2026 at the age of 90.
Marlys was born in Appleton Wisconsin on April 26, 1935. She was raised in Minot, where she met and married her husband, “Skip” Oothoudt, and they together raised at their children Kip, Tami and Bart.
Early on, Marlys worked as an elementary and music teacher, and later owned and managed Dots Uniform in Minot. In 1993, they moved to the Twin Cities to be close to their kids and future grandchildren, and there Marlys owned and managed Uniforms Etc. until she retired in 2000.
Although Marlys was a class act and dedicated mom and career woman, she understood the value of balance in her life, enjoying weekly penny poker games with the same group of women for 25+ years and splitting an occasional “beverage” with the other neighborhood moms at the end of the day.
Marlys will be remembered and missed for many reasons, including her always sunny disposition, quick wit, amazing baking and cooking skills, her ability to make us laugh and her gift of being content in all things.
