Marlys A. Voss

Marlys Ann Voss, 90, of Hawley, MN passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, in Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Marlys was born in Twin Valley, MN on March 2, 1934, to George and Anna (Olson) Bueng. She grew up and attended school in Twin Valley and on February 4, 1951, she married Robert Voss. They made their home in Manitoba Junction for 9 years and then moved to Hawley in 1960. Together they raised three children, Douglas, Lori and Tami.

Marlys was always a hard working woman. She worked as a grocery store clerk at Johnson’s Grocery Store and Rocky’s Jack and Jill for many years and later in the bakery and clothing sections of the store. She also spent time as a waitress at various establishments around Hawley. Even after her retirement, she always found a way to stay busy.

In her free time, Marlys enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking cookies and canning, especially dill pickles. She was a wonderful cook and baker and made dozens of assorted cookie tins around the holidays for family and friends. In her later years she also found joy in putting together jigsaw puzzles, watching the birds as they gathered around her bird feeder and seeing her mason jar solar lights come on at dusk. Marlys had a great sense of humor and a quick wit and she was so proud to be living independently at the age of 90. 

The many blessings in her life include her children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family most of all.

Marlys is survived by her children, Doug and Tami (Scott) Stillwell, son-in-law Ron Rheault; 8 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way); brothers, Harlan (Sylvia) Bueng, Dennis (Fran) Bueng, Bruce Bueng; sister, Clarissa “Dolly” (Terry) Meyer; and sisters-in-law, Julia and Barbara Bueng. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; daughter, Lori Rheault; great granddaughter, Lennon Ann Rheault; brothers, George Jr., Parnell, Garfield, Arnold “Bud”, and Curtis Bueng; and sister, Clarice Lene.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 at Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.

Visitation will continue from 9-10 AM Saturday, August 31, 2024, followed by the funeral service with Livestream at 10:00 at Hawley Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN.

Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery.
