Celebrating the Life of Marquis "Quis" Harmon
Marquis Aurelius Harmon, 18, gained his wings on July 28, 2024, in Eden, MD. He was born on August 22, 2005, to Marcus Aurelius Harmon and Tanika Cherise Harmon in Salisbury, Maryland.
Marquis attended the private school Stepping Stones Learning Academy in Fruitland, MD and graduated in 2023. Marquis was the only student to have attended the academy from the age of three until graduation. Marquis' love for learning was nurtured at Stepping Stones Learning Academy, where he consistently earned A's and maintained a 4.00 GPA since his freshman year. Marquis showed a strong desire to make a difference for those around him. He gained public service and leadership experience over five years in the academy's School Government Association. Marquis was proud of his time photographing school activities for the yearbooks in his role as historian and editing the Academy's weekly announcements.
Marquis attended the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) for his freshman year in 2023/24, where he studied Computer Engineering. Marquis excelled there, and received Departmental Honors, which are higher than the Dean's List.
Marquis held many interests outside of school, one of them being music. Inspired by his Uncle Craig, Marquis took up playing drums when he was just a toddler. He also began self teaching himself how to play the guitar. His passion for motorcycles began at a young age. He had a pocket motorcycle when he was 11 years old and later a dirt bike. Marquis was enthusiastic about customizing his motorcycle, he was constantly changing things on it to make it his own. He was becoming a skilled cornhole player and began playing softball. He also found comfort sitting by a pond near his home just to meditate or to write.
From birth until his death, Marquis was a faithful member of Victory Faith Worship Center. He served as a drummer, and he began serving as an audio-visual tech. Marquis was a young man full of wisdom and great advice. He was often referred to as an "old soul" because he had maturity beyond his years.
Marquis was very dedicated to his family and friends. He enjoyed making everyone laugh, and his smile was like a ray of sunshine. Marquis' closest friends, Cody Timmons and Christian "Kris" Aravanis, were like brothers to him. They loved spending time at each other's homes, hanging out and playing video games. He also enjoyed being with his young dog, Maslow.
Marquis was preceded in death by great grandparents Gertrude Cannon, Gertrude Shockley, David Snead, and Samuel Gumby, Sr.
In addition to his parents, Marquis leaves cherished memories with grandmothers Barbara Gumby and Deborah Barkley; grandfathers Marcus C. Harmon, Wendell "Craig" Gumby, Sr., and David Shockley; great grandmothers Josephine Harmon, Martha Cottman, and Mamie Gumby; aunts Sonya Harmon and WhyNell Gumby; uncles Wendell "Craig" Gumby, Jr. and Jason Harmon; and a host of great aunts, great uncles, cousins, friends, and other loved ones.
Your love, laughs and words of wisdom will be forever imprinted on the hearts you touched. You were truly one of a kind, and we will love you forever. Submitted with love, the Family.
