Marsha Wakefield Baird, of 
Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, at the age of 80. Born January 23, 1945, in Sebring, Florida, she was a cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Marsha's life was marked by her dedication to education and community service. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), she began her career teaching at Woodbridge High School in Woodbridge, Virginia. Her journey then took her to North Carolina State University, where she worked as a research project assistant. It was there that she met her beloved husband, John S. Baird, and they were married in 1970 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Greensboro.
A devoted homemaker and entertainer, Marsha filled her home with love and laughter, and she possessed a special talent for nurturing plants, both indoors and out. Her passion for volunteer work was evident through her long-standing involvement with the 
American Cancer Society, where she was honored as Volunteer of the Year in 1997.
Marsha was a pillar of strength and guidance as the matriarch of her family, the eldest of eleven children. She is survived by her husband, John, and their three sons, Matthew (Carrie), Kevin, and Jeffrey (Mary Kate). Her legacy lives on in her seven grandchildren, Aislyn, Nico, Audrey, Isaac, Aiden, Adeline and Landon and nine surviving siblings: Kathryn (Jack), Sharon (Jim), Bonnie, Clif (Deb), Michael, Carol (Paul), Mary Ann (Ralph), Debbie (Mike), and John (Lori). She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl E. and Kathryn Fulmer Wakefield, both World War II veterans, and her brother, Carl Wakefield, who passed in 2022.
A devoted member of St. Pius X in Greensboro, Marsha served as a eucharistic minister, embodying the values of her faith in every aspect of her life.
A Funeral Mass will be held the week of November 17th at St. Pius X, followed by a reception to celebrate Marsha's life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her honor to the 
American Cancer Society at https://donate.cancer.org or to the 
American Diabetes Association at https://diabetes.org.
Marsha Wakefield Baird will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
