Marsha Cohen Obituary

Cohen, Marsha Carol nee Minkofsky

October 21, 1947 - March 16, 2024

Marsha passed away from melanoma. She is survived by her husband Steven Cohen, her brother Stephen Minkofsky, her daughters Miriam Cohen Franzen (Kurt) and Deborah Kleinman (Joe), and grandchildren Ethan, David, and Anja Franzen.

Marsha was born in Boston, Massachusetts to David and Jessie Minkofsky. She grew up with her sister Ryna and brother Stephen spending her early childhood in Dorchester, MA living close to her extended family. As a teenager, her family lived in Quincy, MA right next to the ocean.

After graduating Quincy High School in 1965, Marsha attended Northeastern University and she became a certified X-Ray technologist.

She met Steven on a blind date. After three months they eloped followed by a family wedding, officiated by a rabbi. They moved to Greensboro, NC with Miriam. Deborah was born in Greensboro a few years later. Marsha worked at High Point Hospital, then at a few private medical offices. She spent over 30 years working for the Hand Center of Greensboro. She loved her job and the people she took care of.

Marsha and Steve enjoyed beach trips, rooting for the Boston sports teams, and spending time with their daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. She also looked forward to playing Mahjongg with friends. She gave generously of her time helping at the hospital during Christmas time, volunteering at her synagogue including working with the Chevre Kadisha to prepare deceased congregants for burial, working as Guardian Ad Litem in the Greensboro court system, volunteering as a reading tutor with B'nai Shalom students, and helping friends and neighbors in need.

Funeral will be held at Beth David Synagogue on March 19th at 10 a.m. followed by a graveside service at the Greensboro Hebrew Cemetery.

Family and friends will miss her and are filled with wonderful memories and lessons from her. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to Beth David Synagogue or to Chabad of Greensboro.

Stephen my sincere sympathy to you and the rest of the family. I know it´s not easy what you and the family are going through at this time. I remember meeting your wonderful sister at your retirement party and I knew then Marsha was a sweetheart.
May your sister Marsha R. I.P.

Marsha was an active member of Clubvette along with her husband Steve. She welcomed new members with her warm smile and laughter. She was one of the forces that started a monthly luncheon for the women striving to go to individually owned restaurants. Marsha will be so very missed by Clubvette members. Our sympathies to Steve and the family.

To Marsha's Family, I only knew Marsha through the Greensboro Newcomers Club, but as I think about all the occasions I had to be around her, I remember how she made me smile. She was that sort of lady, so giving, so caring and so friendly to all. We will miss her.
